Tribute to Jack Nagel

by Bill Rinehart, rector of men's weekend #57

Our Dear Friend JACK NAGEL
Those of us who had the privilege of knowing Jack the closest will miss him dearly. All who have met Jack will remember him for his willingness to give of his time for this Cursillo Movement. Thus, all who knew Jack will miss him, for he served us all. Jack's greatest joy was in giving and serving his family, friends, community, and especially his Lord. I believe the Lord needed our Brother Jack to serve Him in His Kingdom and called him home. My anguish in Jack's passing is comforted in knowing he now sings ABBA, FATHER along with Jesus. I am relatively sure he has probably taught the Angels the echo portion of the Our Father we sing at mass. I know Jack is singing the lead as he has done so many times for all of us.
I first met Jack and his wife Loretta when Fr. Ed told me that my parish needed a "Folk Group" and Loretta was a guitarist that could play. Jack enthusiastically requested to sing with the Group. I would like to mention the people who participated in the Group over some 18 years so you can appreciate the impact on the Cursillo Community. Pat Costello, Carol Rinehart (my wife), Cathy Trimble, Maria and Alan Pavalko, Jack and Loretta Nagle, Deacon John Terranova and myself. Some of our children even sang at different times with the "Folk Group". Jack always gave a positive force to the group and self designated himself as the greeter for the Ten-Down Mass where the "Folk Group" played. Jack would stand outside the door and greet the congregation with a smile and a welcome. Jack was always an integral part of the Ten-Down atmosphere of Catholic praise and sharing.
Jack and Loretta introduced the group members to the Cursillo way of life. They sponsored Carol and me on our weekends. When Jack was the Rector I was his Musical Director and when I was the Rector of the last men's team Jack was my Head Guide. We shared the Cursillo as Group Brothers, team members on many weekends, kitchen workers and what ever else the movement needed us to do for the success of the Cursillo. Jack's current Group reunion is Deacon Ron, Jimmy, Tony, Jim, Alex, Paul (Bufford, Deceased) Frank (Deceased) and myself. Former members are Ron, Jim, Fr. Bill, Alan, Chuck and Steve. Jack would pray for all of us during his "Morning coffee with Jesus". Jack always got up earlier than needed for work to spend private time with his Lord to give thanks, pray for family and friends and worship our God. Jack’s dedication was amazing and an inspiration to us all.
I would like to conclude with some random memories of Jack. Many of you will have shared similar experiences with him. My hope is that these memories will invoke your own personal memories of Jack. Please share with me and enjoy!
